Ms. Eva M. Owens is originally from Yazoo City, MS where she attended Yazoo City High School. She graduated 3rd in her class, won numerous awards in band, academic excellence and business office training and was involved in such organizations as YCHS National Honors Society (NHS) [President], YCHS Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) [State Finalist], Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD) [Projects Chair], and YCHS Student Council. She received a NHS college scholarship, Science and Engineering Alliance (SEA) high school incentive award and is the only high school recipient of the 1992 Bellcore National Scholarship.

 

A 1996 Cum Laude graduate of Jackson State University's Bachelor of Computer Science program, Eva has been involved with such programs as NASA's Earth Observing Systems (EOS), JSU's Research Careers for Minority Students (RCMS) and the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO). During her time at JSU, she was an intern in the Bellcore Summer Internship Program working as a Systems Analyst researching project estimation tools and procedures. In addition, Eva's JSU research involved working with and providing presentations regarding cutting edge software and hardware technologies involving high-speed workstations, advanced software tools, utilization of the world wide web and multimedia program development. She was a member of the Association of Computer Machinery (ACM), National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), Student Government Association (SGA) Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (DST).

 

After graduation, Eva became a Software Engineer for Lucent Technologies in Naperville, IL performing development, testing and quality assurance on such projects as OSPS (Operations Services/Position Services), CALA (Central America/Latin America) and CDBS (CDMA Distributed Base Stations). In 1991, she became a Project Manage providing technical facilitation for customers in South American, Korea and the US. After 7 years with Lucent, Eva became a technical consultant working for such companies as Zurich North America and Boise Office Solutions. In 2003, Ms. Owens joined SEA as the Project Manager for Program Enhancement responsible for researching, planning and executing new endeavors to provide customer support and growth for the organization.
